When guests prepare for a day on the water, they usually have several common questions. Therefore, this FAQ page brings together everything you need to know before climbing aboard. As you read through each section of the FAQ, you’ll gain clear expectations about the boat, the schedule, and the overall experience, which ultimately helps you enjoy your trip even more.
What kind of boat will we be fishing from?
At Northwest Fishing Charters, we run a 28’ Uniflite Salty Dog, and its nearly 11-foot beam creates an incredibly stable and roomy platform. Because comfort matters, the boat includes a heated forward cabin, cushioned seating, and a stand-up marine head. Additionally, you’ll fish with modern equipment such as Humminbird electronics, Cannon electric downriggers, and Shimano rods and reels. This combination ensures a smooth and efficient day on Puget Sound.

What do I need to bring?
Since we supply the tackle, bait, and bottled water, you only need to bring lunch and the right clothing. Weather in the Pacific Northwest can shift quickly, so layering works best. Although some days call for shorts, other days require rain gear. Check the forecast, and then plan for comfort so you can focus entirely on the fun.
What time does the boat leave the dock?
Most morning trips begin at daybreak, although departure times can shift slightly during summer. Afternoon trips depend on both schedules, and if your group books the entire boat, we can adjust times in advance to fit your needs.
How long do trips last?
Typically, morning charters run for six hours from boarding to return, while afternoon outings last three hours. However, if limits come early, we may wrap up sooner. Our priority is always to give every angler a fair shot at success.
How will we be fishing?
Because downriggers consistently produce salmon in Puget Sound, we rely on them for most trips. Yet, if conditions change, we adapt and shift to techniques that keep rods bending.
Do you offer charters besides salmon trips?
Yes. While salmon drives most of our season, we also provide respectful and private sea-burial services.
What wildlife might we see?
Throughout the year, you’ll often spot seals, sea lions, diving birds, and even whales. Since the Sound is rich with life, every trip brings something different.
FAQ Are Frequently Asked Questions We Get.
Do you charge for cleaning the fish?
No. We always clean and bag your catch at no extra cost.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. Because Washington requires a valid license, we provide them on board for $10.
Are there any additional fees?
You can review our Rates page, but rest assured that there are no hidden costs. Everything is explained before you book.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Since our boat features radar, GPS, and reliable navigation equipment, we fish in many conditions. However, safety always comes first, and we will adjust plans when needed.
